Our plans were to travel about 1 1/2 hrs to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey to fly "Space Available" to sunny Calif for a day or so, then on to heavenly Hawaii for 10 glorious days. We made a phone call and Oops, this flight was canceled. No problem, another flight, heading to Washington state showed up and we were on again. We secured our house and then packed our sweet Sebring convertible and headed East to NJ. Oops again, we arrived to find this flight was also cancelled. Okay, Plan C was to stay overnight for $39.00 on base and try to catch a 9:30 am flight to Calif again, only there were no rooms available. Can you believe that since there are at least 500 rooms on base, but none for us. No problem, our Plan D was to get a room at a local motel and catch our plane, a C-17 cargo plane as you see below. The seats on each side of the cargo hull are pulled down to accommodate passengers, like Paul and I, with the govt cargo strapped down in the center.

Many will bring blankets to lay down on the floor and sleep the whole trip. I try to get comfortable by laying on the seats. Well, we were able to get underway finally for a 6 hour trip to Travis Air Force Base, California. Arriving in the early afternoon, we heard that there were 3 flights heading to Hawaii but later found out that all three headed straight over to Japan with tsunami supplies. No problem since there was another one today that we could hop on......wrong, it too, was canceled. With another purchased night on base, and another extended rental car day, we decided to head into San Francisco for a day trip and then on down beautiful coastal Hwy #1 to Half Moon Bay.
