On our several side trips around Bafflin Bay, Texas, we ventured into a small town to find this sight on a
corner gas station. It was so unusual that I just had to
get a picture. Can you guess what these drums are for? We sure couldn't. Our best guess was for water.
I did ask a local and they are deer corn feeders.
Well my goodness!! who would have guessed that?
Another unusual sight was to see this old Wild West building at a local gas station, completely dressed with saddles, wagon wheels, horseshoes and a hitching post. It was just sitting in a big parking lot.
We saw lot of oil rigs pumping oil on the ranches, dead wild boars along the road, and vast open spaces of brown everywhere, longhorn bulls,
a buffalo, horses on every property whether small or big, lots of ranches for sale with thousands of acres,
handsome men dressed in black cowboy hats and boots and country or Mexican music on every radio station.
Our hosts for the week, Jan and Calvin, treated us to
an absolutely delicious dinner at The King's Inn, served
family style, located right on Bafflin Bay, so I grabbed
a picture of them as a memory. Calvin has a side
business of quail hunting, where folks fly to the Bay
in their lear jets, just to have him and his dogs give
them the thrill of seeking out the quail. He had 5
hunts on the weekend we left. Amazing!!
Jan and her friends will be heading to the Northeast and our home this October to view the changing of the leaves in Pa. with a home exchange.
Our trip had come to an end as we headed North to
Kelly Air Force Base to catch a C-5 military flight
to Dover Air Force Base. After a full day's wait while repairs were made on the aircraft, we finally landed in Dover at 1 am, grabbed our car and were home
by 4am. Great memories in lovely homes, great adventures in southern Texas with some really GREAT people. Home exchanges are the BEST.
