Our days have been filled with adventure here in southern Texas, seeing and doing, and just having fun. One of our stops was at this shell company near San Padre Island. It was a feast for the eyes both inside and out. Here is the entrance with 50 ft shells, 3-5 dinosaurs, a 75' gorilla, a 40' volcano, dolphins, and much, much more just on the outside. The massive building inside is filled to capacity with so much STUFF from clothing to clocks, shells to souvenirs, and hats to hamburgers.
Another event was the annual Kitefest on San Padre Island where kiters from all over the country came to fill the sky with vibrant colors right on the beach.
I had never seen kite flying put to music but I did here. Three men dressed in fatigues flew 3 kites, which looked like jets, in perfect unison to the music of Top Gun. It was quite amazing.
The same day Paul and I went to a Chili Fest where for $5 each we were able to taste and fill up on about 15 homemade flavors of chili from clam chili to wild game chili and everything in between.
In the evening we attended a Madrigal, sponsored by the local high school in Brownsville. A Madrigal Dinner is a 21st Century re-creation of the Renaissance feasts held in the great baronial halls throughout England. While the costumes were awesome, the acting and food left us wanting better.
It's RODEO time and Paul and I were there, along with about 2000 other people to enjoy the gorgeous Texan weather and a spectacular presentation.of cowboy adventure.
Here are a few of sweet livestock that posed for my camera. Isn't the heifer on the left just precious with such loving eye contact. The lamb on the right certainly has a big nose, doesn''t she? The longhorn bulls were those used by the cowboys for the bull riding when a strap is placed around their groin to make them buck
and jump. I would buck too, wouldn't
you?
We were able also to see the Clydesdale's with the Anheuser Busch wagon which was mighty impressive, as well as a fly over by 3 WW2 planes by some veterans. All in all, a great show on a perfect day in Texas.
